    A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, David Scott Service was signed as an undrafted free agent in 1985 by the Philadelphia Phillies, reaching the Major Leagues with that team in 1988. He continued to pitch in the Phillies system through the 1990 season, and then for the Chunichi Dragons of the Japanese League, the Montreal Expos, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks.
