    This is a wonderful old Hopi wicker bowl basket.  Wicker baskets such as this one were woven by Hopi on the Third Mesa and were often used to carry fruit and vegetables.  I estimate this to circa. early 1900s.  This basket measures approximately 7 1/4" tall and 8 1/2" across at the rim.  It has ultraviolet fade, you can see some of the design from the inside of the basket .  The bottom is discolored and has some broken stitches.  However, the rest of the basket is in good condition and strong.
    This basket came with several other baskets as part of a collection of Native American  items from the Flagstaff Riordan family estate.  (I've included a  group photo above that includes two of the other baskets that came with this collection.)  The Riordans were some of the earliest settlers of Flagstaff Arizona.  They first settled in Flagstaff in 1884.  They owned the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company.  The Riordan brothers were associated with the development of Flagstaff from its earliest years.  They are first cousins of the Babbitt brothers of Flagstaff. The Riordan Home is now a historic site and open to tours.  I will be listing more items from this collection in the coming weeks.
