Description
KAISER, W GERMANY and Golden Crown, lithophane, 483D, World War 1 Prussian cavalry, regimental military beer stein. This stein is in pristine shape and has been in my personal collection since the 1980's. This stein depicts a main scene, and several smaller side scenes from this soldiers unit. The lithophane inside on the bottom of the stein depicts the soldier and his sweetheart or wife. The stein has a solid pewter finial and thumb lift. Each German soldier back in WW1 and before were given the opportunity to purchase a stein or some type of porcelain item as a souvenir of their time in service. Each stein tells a complete story of the soldier, every facet is symbolic. On the steins are the soldier's name, garrison town, military unit designation, and his years of service. The solid pewter lid (finial) depicts a horse and rider, indicating he was in a cavalry unit. The Eagle depicted on the thumb lift indicates he was from a Prussian unit. On the back, near the handle are the names of all the soldiers in his unit. Inside the stein, when opened and held up to light you will see the lithophane of the soldier and his wife or sweetheart.
Very cool stein, you won't find one exactly like it!
