    Description

Unique, one-of-a-kind red alternate Manager's Jersey from the Arizona Fall League. In 1998, Chris Speier, then working with the Arizona Diamondbacks in their inaugural year, was assigned to manage the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Fall League. This style jersey, with the player or coach's Major League team logo across the chest, was only worn in 1998; the following year, and until 2019, players and coaches wore the uniforms of their Major League sponsors.
Please bear with me...I will be posting photos of the 1998 Scottsdale Scorpions roster in a couple of days.
A native of Alameda, California, Chris Speier, aka 'The Alameda Rifle', was selected in Round 1 (#2 overall) of the 1970 MLB Amateur Draft by the San Francisco Giants, and reached the Major Leagues the following year. Speier played 19 seasons in the Major Leagues - for the Giants, Expos, Cubs, Cardinals and Twins. He began a second long and fruitful career as a coach with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2000, and later with the Diamondbacks, A's, Cubs, Reds, Nationals and Astros.
