Description
This listing is for the old basket that you see in the photos. I purchased it at an estate sale in Oregon where I was not told its history. There were relatively many antique items at the sale. I am not an expert when it comes to Native American baskets but I have gained some experience with them through the years. I believe that this basket is old enough to be considered vintage and possibly antique. It looks and feels old to me. I think that it is probably a Pima or Papago basket. I leave it to the buyer to decide which tribe made it and when it was made.As it sits it measures close to 6 ½ or 6 3/8 inches high depending on where it is measured. Measured across the oval formed by the top edge, it measures close to 8 3/8 by 9 ¼ inches. It weighs close to 9 ounces. The color that it appears to be varies somewhat with the lighting.
The condition is much like you see it in the 21 photos after the general description. It is generally in good to very good vintage condition. The close-ups show 4 areas where a tiny amount of weave is apparently missing. It might benefit from a light and careful cleaning. Some areas are darker in color than other areas. I believe that is from uneven fading do to exposure to light. Please be aware that there are some shadows in the photos. The bottom is round so I am thinking that the oval shaped top rim might be do to it being not the shape it was when it was made. Otherwise, this basket is generally fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition.
I guarantee this basket to be as described and represented by the 21 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them.
Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure.
I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied.
I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation.
I frequently purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often but not always ship the same or the next day. Often, I have a double wall box custom made for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I use used boxes.
Please email me with any questions or suggestions. I do not ship on weekends. I might not be available to answer email on weekends.
